hello everybody

In Kampala we met Pastor John! Coolest pastor ever!! He is so quiet and then he preaches and BAMB it is insane! He is so humorous but then bang on the point!! Mel and i were like weow that is insane! Cootoes to him. The night we met him we didn't realize but he had us at their youth group/ young adults preaching singing songs and praying for deliverance and all sorts lol it was the bestest time ever! We had a blast meeting all the people there! I love it. We are so blessed by coming to see what all is going on here in Kampala! It feels good to preach and encourage and be in the African church atmousphere! HE sends GREETING to the foursquare church! I took some video of his greetings and of the new offices in the church really cool! They are nice i must say! I have seen some crazy stuff over here! Yeah crazy stuff. we worked in the village mel worked in for 6 months and i was blown away, we did house visits for 2 days straight and you have to hike up these major WORK OUT (i mean it) hills and then finally come to some small house and you go inside find out what is going on in their lives, how they need help sickness, money, and so on. We were blessed with being able to take pics for the people who support the men and women of Rubingo.. I met this lady who had elephantitus in her feet i could barely recognize that they were feet.. well i could because they were these huge lumps of mushy bloody cracked swollen lumps as i said attatched to legs.. but my oh my draw me to my knees in a new understanding of what having it bad is and oh my (and to pray)... yeah crazy times.. we have been confronting questioning talking to muslim people all the time.. asking about their faith and so on.. melanie bought a booi booi those black things that only show your eyes and she has had doors open and i have too because i am her (white friend) hahah well i donnno what else to say.. but i is all going well God is leading us and we went to church and danced like crazy... enjoyed that preaching pastor john!! Cool stuff! I love the culture here! Thanks to everybody for all your prayers!!! Well the time passed and the african trip was amazing!!!!!!! And the Adventures Continue

Hello there people of planet earth (AKA. Canada for the most part) haha… Well wanted to say hello and let you all know I am still alive and well once again having a wonderful time here filled with joy, life, and many experiences in which I can’t write them all down. Well where did I leave off.. Ok so Mel was pick pocketed in Zanzibar. The next day we went on this amazing day trip there in Zanzibar. We had the wonderful opportunity of going snorkeling!!!!!!! I LOVE SNORKLING! It is seriously sent from the Lord almighty! WOW the beauty of down under! I saw some sweet fishies, some sweet coral, radical sea urchins, went free diving for amazing shells, and blah blah! B-e-a-utiful. Then we went to see the SEA TURTTLES! They were humongous! About 4 feet around like dinosaurs or something. The oldest was 150 years old! It boggled Melanie and I as we watched those neat turtles munching on greens (they don’t eat meat thank God). I was taken by surprise when one decided my sarong tied around my waist looked tasty and took a bite out of it! Haha ha. As the day continued I ended up getting so sick that we were more than sure I had malaria!! So the beautiful aqua waters that awaited my arrival had to take a break because I wasn’t ‘feeling the mood’ for the moment... I felt horrible and laid in the shade, I took a couple dips but mainly stuck to shade... We ended up going back and it took me walking around Stone town for 2 and a half hours looking for a malaria testing clinic. Then I found out it was negative!!! HALELUJAH! But it turned out I had a parasite or something.. Doctors here are never too sure. So I took medication and had a huge fever blah blah Mel touched my arm and she moved her hand so quickly because I was so hot to her fingers. So after all the yicky yucky sickness we left the next day on a trip of 2 days total to Arusha, Tanzania! The traveling concluded an over night ferry (the sleeping didn’t really happen with a fever and all). Oh and over the coarse of the night a rat was spotted and Melanie had the pleasure of having a spider scurry over her arm 2 times! How delightful! Oh joyous times. Ok so then we took a long bus ride… so we arrive and had the pleasure of meeting one of Melanie’s friend’s friends (she met in Canada) and her new family! We had much fun laughing relaxing inside a real home (been a while) and meeting her new baby and husband! We went shopping, had our noses pierced (we thought it would hurt way more), chilled out with her brother in-law who is our age and really cool, and BOOKED A SAFARI! Good times. So the following day we went on our 1 night 2 day safari! It was awesome ‘like totally wow for sure’… we saw giraffes, elephants, zebras, major big daddy lions, baby everythings, monkeys, baboons, rhinoceroses, hippos, (no leopard, almost saw the BIG 5).. we saw many other breath taking animals and sights! The surroundings were enough to make it worth it never mind all the amazing animals! You just drive and you see these animals chilling out, maybe hiding, but close enough to blow your mind! I love it, you feel like you are looking at a ‘Where’s George’ book!! We had fun spotting animals and being amazed by what God has created! Beautiful I say. We went to a Masi (sound: Mass-I) Village!!!! IT was so cool. The people are so different we saw they huts, clothes, jewelry, stretched ear lobs, little babies, their 15 wives and one husband blows my mind (sketchy), they say there is no competition between the ladies, but I wouldn’t think so. I enjoyed meeting the village people and seeing such a different culture. Fact of the day for you: ‘Masi people only eat cow, cow milk, and cow blood, and that’s it.’ Let that boggle your mind. They pierce the vein of a cow just enough to let the water (blood) seep out enough to drink and then put a leaf on the cow and it heals up for the next drainage of its precious blood. They do this until they would like to eat the cow. Yick. So after the sweet safari and mind blowing masi people we had to head back to Mbarara where Melanie has all of her stuff (junk) that she has accumulated over the 8 months of her being here was. (I call her the ‘pack rat’) I thought I was bad hahaha.. good times, I don’t feel so guilty for how much I get at times. So we took 40 hours traveling straight on buses and sitting at 2 in the morning in Nairobi waiting for our bus that ‘was coming’ and sleeping on the side of the road for 4 hours… freezing I must say. Ugh. We made it back and woke up the next day to find that God had mysteriously planned for us to go to Rubingo (where Melanie was volunteering for 6 months). David Moore the director of Acts was going at 9 that morning and they realized that they had run out of car insurance so they came back, realized we were here and we were divinely invited by David who is sure it was God’s invitation for us to come and experience the goodness of the village. I agreed. We went and it was so worth the trip! We went on visits which consisted of hiking up crazy hills (Rubingo is in the hills no flat ground there). We would come to check up on people, encourage, and help them through money for medical needs, housing, and food and so on. I helped by taking pictures, smiling and I don’t know what else to say. It was neat to see Melanie at work. The worst case I saw was this lady who had elephantitous. It was so sad, she was in excruciating pain constantly because her feet were covered with a disease that covered her feet with swelling, cracked dry skin, and bleeding. You could hardly tell if they were feet at all, so deformed from it. When she walked she tried to walk quickly then sat on the ground. The lady was elderly and full of so much pain, it broke my heart to see. I pray God will heal her body quickly. We were supplying her with more meds to take the swelling down so soon she should be better!! God thanks for medication. We heard the choir sing that night. Beautiful sounds meshing together making music that comforts the soul and brings peace and confidence with the continual beating of a drum. The choir is made up of all Aids positive people. Touching. We were only in Rubingo for 2 days but that was enough to experience it. We are back now to pack all of Mel’s stuff and getting ready to go and minister in Kampala!!! We are very excited to go and serve there. The church we are helping at is one that is affiliated with the foursquare in Courtenay, Pastor Scott has come to Uganda before and knows Pastor John here. We are very excited to meet him and do some ministry. I am continuing onto the second half of the journey on the 13th of May. It will hold many good things. Holland, Switzerland, Prague, Sweden and then home. Miss you all. Love Adele

ADVENTURES I MUST SAY LAMU

Ok! Hello everyone!!! I am rewriting this blog again!! Geepers computers are not my friend! But anyways!! So where we left off i was heading to the most amazing place on earth! LAMU I must tell you all to go there at some point of your life! OK so what it consisted of for us was beaches, swimming, tanning, reading, food, drink, and fun!!! We went on a day dhow trip and a 2 day dhow drip ( Sounds like Du Owww) (it is a sailboat made out of thousands of pieces of wood) ok... soo these trips were sweet off the hook i must say... they kinda went like this... we got on the boat sailed for an hour and then got to a beach that is whiter than the beach before (on Sse Sse) and you would get there swim frolic in the waves enjoy yourself! Eat a meal cooked over coal and the fish that you caught would be cooked over fire using sticks from the bushes to hold them up!! AMAZING FOOD I SAY! Oh and you know eat some sting ray that was speared! Yeah speared that is right SPEARED. Have you ever experienced this before? Yea so this guy just jumps off of the boat and you know have his snorkel on so he can see all the lil fishes and then dives down holds his breath and takes his spear and you know SPEARS A STING RAY! You do realize that crocidoodle dundee died from one! They do this everyday,.... anyways a little too obsessive! But wow! So yeah you would eat, drink, swim, read and relax!!! So yeah then we went on a 2 night 3 day trip... which we sailed for 6 hours in the sweltering sun with a beautiful sea breeze ever so sweetly cooling you off, while your hand moves through the glistening aqua blue water. Sorry to make it sound so good but gosh! ha ha So yeah anyways!! I HAVE A STORY! So we are just floating along with the mast way up like 40 feet in the air... Mia (a girl from the trip) and I are laying at the from of the boat, you know doing the same as before.. letting the water cool us off from the splashing waves, reminiscing... then all of the sudden we hear a little crunch, then continued on.. then CRACK!!!!!!!! hoaky dina! The MAST BROKE IN HALF!!!! Insane! We were freaking we moved so quickly it wasn't even funny! We watched like a couple of deer caught in the headlights as the crew bandaged up the old mast which consists of like 20 pieces of wood packed together with string! HA So then yeah they put it back up and everyone cheered and all was good.. The told us that that is how the boats sink and yeah we could have died! Not a big deal at all ahahha (nervous laughter)! The owner of the boat cracked open a beer to celebrate, and everyone was so happy!! ...Then all of the sudden BAMBBB!! The mast broke AGAIN!!!! WHEW crazy moments of my life! Not only did it break again but we knew we could die !!!! HAHAHA (nervous laughter again)... So we are holding each other and watching the crew now looking like a bunch of ants waiting to be stepped on!!! They hoisted the thing (mast) up and all was well and then the owner finished his beer! Ba ha! good times.. Anyways soo then we are sailing along the beautiful waters and then all the sudden i see this amazing i mean amazing looking beach with this tree house (a REAL ONE KATIE)!!! Then i was like in my mind (Oh man what i would give to stay at that beach).. then like 5 minutes later we pulled up to this little cove of a beach with the tree house and you know trees growing out of the water (literally out of the water like sometimes you can't even see them anymore because they are submerged in the sea!!) There was a little hut where we would cook our meals and all! We spent our couple of days soaking rays, listening to acousticy music, talking, laughing a little too hard he he, and i donno good times ok! So yeah then we came back on the dhow and yeah floating along with the motor on (really defeats the purpose of the (sail) and all) but yeah in the middle of this beautiful Indian ocean when all of the sudden... GUESS WHAT!!! WE HIT CORAL!!! Our boat flew into the air and the back of it (where the motor is) was WAY out of the water! It was insane HAHAHAHAHA By this time nothing scared me lol Melanie on the other hand i swear she shat her pants. oh my oh my... so we had to rock the boat back and forth (not safe pastor craig) until we could somehow i don't know how but we did get off of this patch of coral!! Loving this life in Africa! OK that was it for the trip... i have sweet video footage! You would all be proud! Our time in Lamu was the best ever beautiful memories and good times... We stayed for 8 days and that is alot but we didn't even realize how long we were there! OH MAN.... but yeah we continued onto Mombasa, Kenya and that is where I am now... We were very very dirty.. no laundry for about 3 weeks!! WE'RE not doing that again! We spent 4-5 hours cleaning laundry BY HAND BY HAND ( just wanted to make sure you heard that) Do you know what that consists of... we pretty much died! HA HA no no no we are just dying from our ham strings being stretched for far too long bending over to wash our clothes (by hand) in little dinky buckets of water with hardly any soap and stringing out clothes on lines... and having to take them down and put them up the next day!! OK I'll stop.. note to self PAY SOMEONE to do my laundry, it's like 2 Dollars! jeepers.. I must say that I have had the experience of a life time yesterday cleaning all those disgustingly dirty clothes. .... Well that's all for now... i am sick of the computer and i think am going slightly crazy from these florescent lights! Love you all... please please write back (not to force you at all);)

Adele in Nairobi, Adventurous.

HeLLo!!!
I am doing very very well! I am having a blast! Even have a tan i might add... no, no not to rub it in.. but..;) Well anyways... i left off last coming from Rwanda. So we went to the Sse Sse islands! We stayed at this dutch guys camping grounds and had a blast (100 bucks for everything)! The water was murky... but the sand was the whitest sand i have seen in all my life anywhere! Which i have to say needs to be white to compare to so many other beaches... So we basically spent a day getting there we were so wiped 9:30 am to 9:30 pm.. I don't know what i was thinking when i thought about how long it would take you know.. just take a ferry. uhmm yeah their ferries here are sooooo slow lol me and Mel had a good laugh over it all. We spent our days frolicking in the water tanning till we burned (sorry mom) listening to our ipods, eating and drinking. That is pretty much it. You basically lay around like a tub and do nothing. Although we played volley ball and sweat like pigs.. haha.. we stayed for 3 days, 4 nights. Met really neat ppl from the States, Barcelona, and England. Sat around the fire. Ok, then we headed on to Kampala, Uganda with 2 other travelers. We stayed a night met up with some of Mel's friends and hung out. Then we went the next day to Nairobi, Kenya! I love it here! So we came it took us 15 hours!! 3:30pm to 7:00 am! CRAZY! Ok then our window was broken on the bus, i was freeeezzing all night!! All the Africans were gesturing! hehe.. So we went to church the next day.. which is inside of a movie theater! It was full of music so loud i thought my ears were bleeding! Let me tell you the preaching did not get any quieter! Pastor Craig you would have loved it! (PS they did the hankie dance!!!! I love it) They wave their hankies in the air and don't care! You'd laugh, it's a good time.) So we were really in pain (our ears that is) so we decided to leave the service... not a good idear. We were in the very front actually separated from the rest of the congregation! Awkwardness lol.. So we were leaving and an usher said that 'mama' wanted to talk to us! We were like what?!!?! She was the preacher, teacher, singer, hardcore lady! We were ushered to her office and we waited... So she finally came and she said 'God told me when i saw you that you needed to be looked after'. So she payed for our lunch and we didn't go with her she sent one of her ushers to come with us (Ken is his name). We had fun... but we were so wiped from our travels.. Later that night in our hostel we met this cool guy named Andrew who is from England and teaching in schools and so on... very fun and passionate! Mel and I have been chilling with him with most of our free time. You'd all love him...Ok.. thing is about this lady Pastor Lucy is that she and her husband are heading up 250 churches across the coast. they have many orphanages. youth ministries!!! Oh and I forgot one thing, her husband is running for president over Kenya!! Talk about that. Ok so the next day we went to church again ( they have 2- 3 services each day, 7 days a week, and like 1 or 2 crusades a week). Sweet easter service! So much energy the people are so passionate! They have moved me to seek God more seriously and have also been an encouragement to me! What a wonderful (non fattening) easter. So then we were taken for lunch again. We spent the whole day with Ken and laughed sooooo hard its not even funny! He is crazy. Then we waited a long while to meet with Pastor Lucy. She came in and left. that was it... but we got to see her sons ministry! She had only said he did music for youth and i was like wow ok, thats neat. So we walk in and there are like 20 people in white suits! Serious suits! With top hats i might add. Then they told us that they are an R&B band! They rap, they have 3 cd's, they have music videos they travel all over Africa, they are on the radio always... so they proceeded to show us their videos and i tell you they are tight! I COULDN'T believe it. They were so insane! My jaw dropped! Seriously i was amazed! They travel and do skits, dances, preaching and all for youth! They are all 18-27 single.. blah blah, serious about God... Victoria! you need to come and meet up with these people. So anyways. We are getting copies of their stuff very excited. Love it here, we will be moving on sooner than later to the coast! Life is exciting, and God always makes a way! Thank you all for reading this! I hope you are all well and safe! Also that this is not boring you.. tehe, I do hope to hear from you.
Much love - Adele xo

First Entry

Hello all!
Write a blog, write a blog.. hmmm what to say to you. I am loving my trip. Being alone traveling over to Uganda was not the most fun thing I’ve ever done! I met a few people had some light conversation, and some intense conversations with a guy who put Christianity in a box, he knew ‘everything’. God help me, it was impossible to get through, but I tried anyways. I read a lot on the 4 plane long trip. When I got to Entebbe I saw Mel after like walking 1 km out of the airport that was ‘under construction’ seeing each other but being stuck behind a grandma with a pusher for about 100 feet and only running to see Mel at about 10 feet away! That was painfully unwanted patience. We talked for 6 hours on the way to Canada house. So good to see her! By the way Mel is doing wonderfully well lol, she is a blast! I love the creativity that Mel and I are seeing everywhere. We are catching moments of beauty everywhere we go. It’s hard to explain what I see here. I see people going through life, through emotions they may never feel again or have felt and are trying to wash away. I have seen people who have gone through the Genocide in Rwanda. Their faces say a lot. You may think you would see pain and anger written on their faces but above all we see love. Love was very strong in Rwanda. Our trip there was full of fun! We met many sweet travelers, some a little different than others… to say the least. Then we met locals and they shared their stories on what life was like during the genocide what the consequences were and so on. How about the many orphans that were the out come of humans vulgar actions? Or how about the many women who were raped and now are carrying Aids because of a thoughtless, wait not a thoughtless act it was planned rape (they would get lessons on how to do this) just so they could be better than and make themselves into the ‘supreme beings’ of Rwanda. One hundred days, one million people dead. Neighbors turning on neighbors, family on family, husbands to wives, wives to husbands. The ripping of love and the daggers of pain in seeing your lost ones taken before your eyes over repeated actions of savage outbreaks of a torn government. I have experienced many emotions in Rwanda. They are good though. I have learned a lot. We did not go any further than the Memorial Museum. We had opportunity to go and see dead mutilated bodies that were kept ‘well’ by putting lime on the bodies, many people killed within a school left in the exact position of death in 1994. Sick, I am not into seeing that unless I am in genocide myself. Yick. Ok. This all sounds intense it is but we also have been going out for dinner, walking, talking, chill axin. We have laughed till our stomachs hurt! We are enjoying each others’ company. We have been sharing our thoughts out loud and have had many good things come out of them. Instead of tearing ourselves down we are building each other up… Okay, now for a storey. One night we went out for dinner at about 6:30 we wanted to catch a Boda Boda to our hostel and these 2 guys we were obviously drinking came up and were just ‘hanging around’.. one was picking my purse *trying to steal from a mzungu*, urg! So I turned and yelled, ‘excuse em moi!!!’ *they speak French there* I pushed his shoulder and let me tell you, he moved! What nerve (he didn’t get a thing, my bag is practically bullet proof hehe). Then the other guy was like ‘WOW, madam very good!!’ Then he continues, ‘I love you, I love you mzungu’ (white woman). I turned and said, ‘NO you don’t’ and I swung my leg over the Boda Boda (which is a motorbike) and I sacked him with my foot *then he keeled over*! Then my driver took off (with me). (Guess God really is looking out for me) hehe. That was an awkward thrill! (all you mill guys don’t need to worry about me! You know I can hold my own. Keep on working hard boyz) Anyways, we are safe and these guys are pathetic, good thing I am strong from all that work at the mill Dad! At the moment Mel and I are at Canada house picking pics for the blog and writing down our thoughts for you! We are continuing onto the Sse Sse Islands tomorrow morning. Obviously for some sunnage and campidge. There are 84 islands, I must say it will be hard to pick one. So I will update as soon as possible! I love you all, I hope all is well. Let me know your thoughts and comments! Much love – Adele

A New Adventure!

HELLO EVERYONE!!

Today is the day before I go. I am ecstatic! Geeze how fast it is one trip to the next. Come back work like a dog and then take your finger off the pause button and continue...I feel very excited.. this trip isn't taking as much preparing as the last. It feels good, not so hard to pack. I am getting the hang of it more easily now. I love traveling, the feeling you get when you arrive, meeting people, seeing things that blow your mind, feeling adventurous, and even the wrapping up of the whole trip. Sharing memories even before you are back home! Exciting and moving is what i am praying this trip will be. This is going to be a blast. Mel and I are going to go all out in all we do. We hope to tent and not get rained on. To meet people with crazy characteristics that are so beautiful and encouraging. To see animals of all types that I've never seen. We hope for new things that make us think out of the ordinary. Yet we know a few basics of what the trip holds.. we never will know what this trip holds till it unfolds before us in these next 2 and a half months! That/this is so neat, i can't wait to see it all happen and blend so creatively .. My back pack is ready, i have my thermarest and a sheet for sleeping, some clothes for all occasions and i have my international driving licence man o man i am ready for adventure. So I hope all these entries encourage, excite, and entertain your lives! Come and join this adventure into Uganda Africa, and Europe! If you have questions ask, and if you have comments, comment! I will reply!! :)
